New Nambour Tram Co gifts available
Nambour Tram Co have some new Tram merchandise available for purchase thanks to a recent grant from Sunshine Coast Council.
“The ‘people’s Tram’ is on track to be running on the Nambour heritage-listed cane train tracks by the end of 2022,” said Tram Co Director Rhonda Billet.
“The tram tracks are a permanent, heritage-listed fixture in the town. They are not going anywhere, so activating them will bring huge benefits to Nambour,” Rhonda said.
“The amount of world-wide interest we have received so far is mind blowing.
“The Tram is a world-first, being solar run on a two-foot gauge train track.
“Enthusiasts are constantly messaging us on the project and many people are wanting to come from far and wide to see it.
“Unfortunately, there have been delays in getting the tram build complete due to Covid 19, but we are getting close to being able to get it up and running on the tracks.”
Rhonda said the Nambour Tram Co Board of directors met recently with interstate rail safety accreditors and authorities to finalise the Tram build and operations to Australian Safety Standards.
“There is a lot of paperwork involved with this project behind the scenes – all done by volunteers – but all the loose ends are nearly all tied up.”
Rhonda said she hoped to have some more news to share in the coming weeks about the project.
In the meantime, t-shirts and enviro bags are available for purchase at future Tram Co terminal events, such as the next Nambour Suitcase Rummage Sale on Sunday May 22 from 9am until 1pm. Bags are $10 and t-shirts are $30 with more items coming soon.
Follow Nambour Tram on Facebook or message the Tram Facebook page for more information on how to get involved, volunteer and be a part of the fun.
